- Open Microsoft Excel and click the File menu.
- Select the Open option. Browse the location where the file is saved.
- Click the file name and open it.
- If the file does not open, then select the Open and Repair tool from the Open menu to know How to Recover Deleted Excel File.
- Select the Extract Data option if the Repair option doesn’t work.
- If the above steps do not help, run an Excel repair software to repair the corrupted file and open it.
- If you see the Access Denied message, then follow the steps below to open the file.
- Log in to your Windows with the administrator credentials.
- Open the File Explorer window and then locate the folder comprising the locked file. Give a right-click on the file and then select the Properties option.
- When the Properties window opens, click the Security tab and then select the Advanced button.
- Select the Change link option and then tap the Owner option in the Advanced Security Settings window.
- Type your Windows account username in the box named Enter the object name to select field.
- Click the Check Names option. Your profile name and the path of the file will be displayed. Click OK.
- Select the Apply option followed by OK. Restart your computer and then log in using the new administrator details.
- Now, find the file and double-click it. It should open normally.
