Recover Infected Files Deleted By Antivirus

Antivirus software helps to protect your computer against virus attacks. Sometimes, the antivirus software might delete important files by mistake. You can easily recover the files deleted by your antivirus software using one of these methods.

Method 1 - Recycle Bin

  • Recycle Bin is a place where all the deleted files will be stored.
  • So, check once if the deleted files are stored in Recycle Bin.
  • If so, restore them using the ‘Restore the selected items’ option.
  • If the deleted files are not seen in Recycle Bin, go to method 2.

Method 2 - Hidden files

  • Launch File Explorer Options on your Windows 10 computer.
  • Navigate to the View tab, select the radio button beside the ‘Show hidden files, folders, and drives’ option, and click OK.
  • Now, you will see a list of hidden files on the screen. Check if the deleted files are present in this list.
  • If so, restore them.

Method 3 - Quarantine

  • Most of the antivirus programs have a Quarantine folder. The antivirus program isolates the suspected files and they will be stored in Quarantine.
  • Below are the steps to recover files deleted by Kaspersky, Avast, Norton, McAfee, and AVG.


  • Open the Kaspersky Antivirus program, click the More Tools button, and select the Quarantine option.
  • Select the file to recover and restore it.


  • Launch the Avast program, click the Scan tab, and select the Scan for viruses option.
  • Click the Quarantine (Virus Chest) link.
  • Restore the deleted file.


  • Open the Norton Antivirus program.
  • Click Security -> History -> Quarantine.
  • Recover the deleted file.


  • Launch the McAfee Internet Security program.
  • Click the Navigation option and select the Quarantined Items or option.
  • Once you see the quarantined items list, search for the deleted file and restore it.


  • Open the AVG Antivirus program, click the Options drop-down menu, and select the Virus Vault option.
  • Find the deleted file and recover it.

Method 4 - Data Recovery software

  • You can even use any data recovery software like MiniTool Power Data Recovery, EaseUS Data Recovery, Stellar Data Recovery Professional, or Remo Recover to restore the files deleted by the antivirus programs.
